THE PASSAGE

In memory of Freddie's 60th birthday, an art installation by Grego Matos and Matilda Valli representing his voice pattern has been erected next to the statue in Montreux. Called The Passage, it was created using over 5,000 coloured ribbons and with the help of the hoardes of fans (including Freddie's mother and sister) who came from all around the world to celebrate his birthday.

It took the artists a week to set up one half of the piece tying 2,500 ribbons inspired by the waveform of Freddie's voice singing 'Don't Stop Me Now'. On the morning of Saturday 2nd, in less than two hours, the entire other half mirroring the wave was completed by everybody who attended, including Jer and Kash, with not a ribbon out of place. The care and attention by the fans participating in this artwork took the artists by surprise and the result was spectacular.
